i was living in new zealand. we lived in a house that was previously owned by a tinkering electrician. he had wired up a buzzer that could be activated from the kitchen so his wife could call him in to dinner. inetmer came to visit me in new zealand and we were messing around with stuff in the garage as kids will do. earlier that day we’d been thoughtlessly squashing bugs. now it was twilight and getting hard to see. someone in the kitchen pushed the buzzer. the sound was sudden and rasping and sent waves of terror down our spines. it was surely the scariest moment of my life. the only possible source of the sound that i could concieve us was that an 8 foot tall bettle was coming to seek revenge and devour us both. looking at inetmer, i knew he knew it too. we never ran so fast.
